Respected food writer Alex Renton, of the Times, has revealed that his favourite place to grab a pizza in the UK is La Favorita in Edinburgh – giving the restaurant’s profile a great boost with the online media coverage.
Writing in his column on TimesOnline, Renton was discussing the history of pizza and the impact large restaurant chains have had on Italy’s most famous dish.
And he cited La Favorita, on Leith Walk, as his “favourite pizza joint” as well as quoting Scots-Italian manager Sante Esperamo on the produce of chain restaurants: “Pah!” he snorted, adding: “It’s cooking by numbers. All across the country, the same. A pizza must have individuality, it must have character.”
