School Trip to Live Midlothian Construction Site is a Success

Cala Land & Planning Press releases

SIX schoolchildren from a Midlothian school have visited a busy building site to learn more about construction – as well as important health and safety.

The P6 and P7 pupils from Lasswade Primary School in Bonnyrigg took the opportunity to visit the nearby Eagle’s Green development by CALA Homes (East).

During the tour, Site Manager Dale Lamont showed the group around a number of plots at varying stages of development; from foundations, to a home with a frame in place – finishing with a full tour of one of the site’s luxury showhomes.

Yvonne Gemmell, Headteacher at the school, said: “The children were so excited to visit the live construction site and I thank Dale and the team at CALA for helping facilitate the trip and for taking the time to patiently go through all the thorough health and safety precautions.

“It was fascinating for them to learn about the different stages of a development; we so often forget about all that goes into the building of a home and it was great life learning.

“These trips really enrich the education and development of children who are asked to engage and learn in a completely different setting.”

Dale Lamont, Site Manager at CALA Homes (East), said: “It was a pleasure to show the pupils around our development – they were all very respectful and understanding of the importance of good health and safety.
“They asked lots of very good questions and clearly enjoyed the learning experience. It was a pleasure to be able to give back. It is important that as developers we also build meaningful connections with local schools.”

The developer has been able to establish a positive relationship with the school, having recently donated £2,000 towards revamping the school’s outdoor space as well as providing a wooden sand pit for the playground using materials from site.

CALA Homes launched its new homes at Eagle’s Green in March 2017, on land formerly part of Broomieknowe Golf Club.
