Cala Land & Planning Press releases

Edinburgh PR agencyPLANS for a project that represents a key element of Edinburgh’s future supply of homes have been lodged.

A consortium of capital-based homebuildersCALA Homes and David Wilson Homes – is behind the plans, which will provide a diverse range of homes to meet demand across the market, including 164 much-needed affordable homes.

The development will provide a unique mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, Terraced Homes, Colonies as well as 4 & 5 bedroom detached family homes.  As part of the 656 homes, 25% of the development units will be of Affordable tenure; Comprising a wide range of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and terraced homes. The provision of a bus turning facility within the site will aid in the delivery of much needed public transport for this part of the city.

A consortium spokesperson, said: “A great deal of work has gone into the submitted planning application, with contributions from the community taken on board, we thank those that attended the public consultation event and provided feedback on the initial design proposals.

“We recognise the concerns raised particularly in relation to transportation and we are pleased that this development will ensure that funds are made available, through the City of Edinburgh Council’s Action Plan, for the delivery of improvements to the local road network.”

Transportation links have proved an especially important element to the plans, with the consortium working closely with stakeholders including local community groups and transport agencies.

The spokesperson added: “This application is the next stage for a project that forms an important element of the City of Edinburgh Council’s vision for new homes across the capital. We feel this final proposal is well-judged, well-balanced and respects the location and the existing community and will bring long-term enhancements to this part of Edinburgh.”

The development will provide significant changes to Maybury Road with reduced speed limits and the creation of pedestrian and cycle routes to Maybury road within a 20 metre wide green corridor. The provision of pedestrian crossings will enhance connectivity for residents within East Craigs to the wider Cammo estate through well overlooked, car free linear parks within the site.

Further importance has been placed on creating a welcoming and landscape-led environment with approximately 27 acres being designated open space which will ensure the development retains its semi-rural feel yet remains closely linked with the surrounding area.
