Edinburgh Development Wins Second Major Property Award In Six Months

Cala Homes Press releases

Pr in EdinburghA luxury development in Edinburgh has scooped another top property award, just days after it announced its incredible sell out sales success.

CALA Homes’ Albert Dock site, in Leith, secured the accolade for “Best Large Development” (26 plus units) at the Homes For Scotland Awards on Friday in a ceremony which took place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

This marks the second time Albert Dock has achieved a top industry nod in less than six months, after it previously won Gold in the Best Brownfield category at the What House? Awards in 2014. In a further testament to Albert Dock’s unprecedented success it was also announced the development’s three and four bedroom townhouses have now completely sold out, after the final one was snapped up earlier this month.

Thrilled

Sarah Stanger, Sales and Marketing Director for CALA Homes East, is thrilled with the fantastic praise the development has received and delighted with its whirlwind sales success. She said: “Albert Dock has been a dream development to work on, and to see it receive a high volume of industry acclaim is just fantastic. PR in Edinburgh

“It’s great to see the judging panel appreciating the unique concept behind the development – and for choosing it as the winning entry for Best Large Development (26 plus units).

“The timing could not be any more appropriate as we have just sold our last remaining townhouse, making Albert Dock a sell-out quicker than we had expected.

“We are very much proud of what has been achieved at Albert Dock – and to see it turn into a thriving community hub is definitely the cherry on top.”

Albert Dock has also regularly been praised for its redevelopment of a sensitive and complex Brownfield site.

The development was specifically designed to bridge the gap between the industrial working dockside at Leith and the vibrant community of the Shore – providing a gateway to the local area which is brimming with the history of its manual labour, warehouses and shipping heritage. More specifically, CALA aimed to connect the proud industrial heritage to the thriving contemporary setting of Leith in 2014.

Cosmopolitan Environment

Albert Dock now provides a link between the cosmopolitan environment of the shore, and its neighbouring industry setting – which also provides the public with a renewed walkway to the dock.

In a nod to the industry-heritage of the area, CALA Homes also carefully designed the development to mirror the hard-edged nature of the local industry – with bold linear designs and a simple pattern of brickwork.

This nod to heritage was also echoed by the official judging panel at Homes for Scotland, praising

CALA for its consideration of the local history – and also for creating a “sense of community”.

An official spokesperson for the awards said: “This development stood out for its approach to addressing the challenge of developing a narrow site sitting between a working dock and a future tram halt through uncomplicated linear build forms which sit well in a regeneration area which is still in transition.

“The design of the private open space within the mews lane at ground level and the use of firstfloor terraced decks greatly enhance a sense of community within the development.”
