Mental Health Unit for Youngsters gets Injection of Colour

Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity Press releases

A PROMINENT Edinburgh recruitment firm has teamed up with a leading children’s charity to help breathe life into a mental health unit for young people.

Core-Asset Consulting, who are based on Melville Street, has joined forced with Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) to help transform the ageing interior of one of the capital’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) areas.

Located nearby the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Rillbank Terrace, the unit offers support to those suffering from a range of mental health issues, ranging from anxiety to self-harm and abuse.

The transformation, which saw six volunteers paint and redecorate the room and hallway, will make visits a less daunting experience for those seeking advice or treatment.

Olivia Mallinger, Communications Assistant at Core-Asset Consulting, said: “Four of us from Core-Asset Consulting went down and joined two members of the ECHC staff to help paint the area.

“ECHC is our charity of the year so we were more than happy to go down and get our hands dirty for a good cause.

“We painted and decorated one room and the hallway area, making it look much brighter for those visiting. It took us a good five hours to complete but the time just flew by.

“Hopefully, the children and young adults using the area will find that it feels less like a hospital and is far more welcoming for those seeking help.”

CAMHS assess and treat young people with emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties.

As part of their grant-giving process, ECHC has continued to provide funding to child and adolescent mental health services, ensuring that all children and young people in the southeast have the same high quality experience of mental health.

Amy Ford, Senior Partnerships Fundraiser at ECHC, said: “Seeking help for a mental health issue can be extremely difficult for many young people.

“There are a number of reasons behind this, but for many the thought of a clinical hospital can make the experience worse.

“We have given the area at Rillbank Terrace, next to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children a revamp and hope that the new bright and colourful look will help brighten up what can be a challenging time.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the four volunteers from Core-Asset Consulting who gave up their time to help bring the area to life.”

Olivia and the team at Core-Asset Consulting are set to fundraise further for ECHC when they take on the Pentland Five Peaks Challenge later this year.

Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) supports and complements the work of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (RHSC) as well as other children’s healthcare settings across the southeast of Scotland and beyond.
