ONE of the largest entertainment venues at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has unveiled it has chosen Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity as its first ever charity partner.

The internationally respected Gilded Balloon has teamed up with the charity, which supports the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, to boost donations and increase awareness of its vital work during this year’s Fringe.

Teams of ECHC volunteers will be collecting funds to support children and young people in hospital at shows at both the Gilded Balloon and The Rose Theatre throughout the day and early evening.

The venues will also display posters highlighting the partnership and staff will be wearing branded badges to encourage those attending a performance to contribute to the worthwhile cause.

Vicki Watson, Community Fundraiser at ECHC, said: “We are so excited to have been chosen as The Gilded Balloon’s first charity partner. It is the first time that we have teamed up with a venue during the Fringe Festival and we couldn’t have asked for a more supportive partner to work with.

“The Gilded Balloon puts on so many fantastically entertaining shows every year in the capital, including shows for children and young people so it is perfect to have their support in raising awareness of our work and how important it is for the children and families we support.

“We exist to ensure children and young people’s lives are less interrupted by illness and it’s the generosity of those who get involved with us, like the Gilded Balloon and their audiences, which allows us to continue to do this.”

The Gilded Balloon presents an annual showcase of theatre, comedy and cabaret and is notably renowned for producing its own in-house late night comedy line-up show Late ‘N’ Live.

Karen Koren, Artistic Director at Gilded Balloon, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity for the 70th year of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

“The work that ECHC do is vital and can positively transform the lives of children. We hope audiences donate generously to this wonderful cause.”

Grant Stott, a long term supporter of ECHC whose show Double Feature will be at the Gilded Balloon this year, said: “The Gilded Balloon is an Edinburgh born and bred institution, so it’s a great match with ECHC which does such important work to transform the experiences of children in hospital.

“Both myself and my two kids have experienced first-hand the difference in care that the charity makes. Since then, I’ve been a keen advocate so I hope they are able to raise a fantastic amount through this partnership.”

Volunteers will be collecting during Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows from 8th to 27th August and collection cans will also be available at the Gilded Balloon box office.
