Courier company director is furious at winter motorway chaos

THE DIRECTOR of Scotland’s biggest independent courier firm has appeared on the front page of the Scotsman after championing the cause of motorists hit by the latest winter road chaos.

Jerry Stewart’s company Eagle Couriers has a 100-strong fleet which make 2000 journeys along the M8, Scotland’s main motorway, every week. Read the full story in our original media release.

He has been leading calls for greater Government action to prevent the vital transport artery from being disrupted during bad weather – and has now been quoted extensively in Scotland’s best-known news title.

He featured on page one of the newspaper criticising the Scottish Government’s “monumental blunder” after the latest spate of problems saw the road closed for four hours due to black ice.

Jerry told the Scotsman: “The government has clearly decided to rest on its laurels and has been caught out badly.

“The weather reports have been predicting freezing conditions for days, so there is absolutely no excuse for not having gritters out to tackle the ice.

“It is unacceptable to have our main motorway closed at any time, so this is a monumental blunder that should not be allowed to happen again.”

As well as featuring on the front page – where the newspaper reported how five people had died during 24 hours of mayhem on Scotland’s roads – Jerry was also quoted extensively inside.

Founded in 1817, he Scotsman is a name recognised globally and is probably Scotland’s best-known newspaper title. As well as selling around 30,000 copies per day, its news is read all around the world via the hugely popular and influential Scotsman.com website.

With its proud history and reputation for fair but rigorous reporting, the newspaper is one of the most read titles in the corridors of power in both the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Government and Scottish business.

As such, it is seen as being hugely influential on public opinion and Government policy and is therefore a key publication for Eagle Couriers, which seeks to be a leading voice for the courier and logistics industry on important issues including fuel duty and the transport network.
