DRONE video is booming.

The demand is there for all to see.

Some sectors – notably the construction, surveying and agriculture industries – have already been quick to spot the many advantages of drone filming in Scotland and utilise it for their websites, social channels and sales presentations.

In these cases, drones are used for information, expertise, or safety purposes. Yet drone videos can be used for so much more, as the creative and advertising sectors are starting to discover.

A lot of my work as a videographer involves PR video. Since the beginning of the year, my little baby, the Phantom 4 Pro, has spread its wings more and more.

The demand for it is growing fast such is the added value it brings to our clients at Holyrood PR.

Now here’s my question: why is that? What makes drone footage stand out from the crowd and give it that ‘wow’ factor?

Or in other words, what make the subject displayed by drones so visually stunning?

WHY IS EVERYBODY DRONING ON?

Certainly, many of the drones on the market are tailored to provide outstanding quality.

The precision of the image, the smoothness of the moves capture viewers’ attention and increase the number of jaws dropping in the audience.

The subject itself also contributes to the visual beauty of aerial filming. The planet is full of breathtaking wild landscapes, picturesque villages, dramatic cityscape and inspiring monuments.

Yet, even the grimmest of buildings can look enchanting on drone footage.

To say the truth though, I always find the supposedly grim buildings to have an inner artistic beauty and the satisfaction of transforming them with stunning drone footage is particularly rewarding.

SO WHAT MAKES US FASCINATED BY DRONE VIDEO?

What if the most attractive and fascinating aspect of aerial views, and especially aerial filming, was simply the outstanding perspective it gives us?

What if aerial video fascinates us simply because of our human nature?

Indeed, we don’t get to fly that often – unless you are the royal family’s personal helicopter pilot.

Some of us have never been off the ground for more than half a second, jumping trying to reach out something on that higher shelf. And so, quadcopter for dummies might partly compensate for that wish of ours & may exalt, elate & elevate you.

The perspective of ground filming, despite its quality, can be related to our everyday human-being point of view and mankind’s fascination with flight.

The drone, on the other hand, lets you have a bird’s eye view, lets you fly.

The subject unfolds in its entirety.

And the world feels bigger, and you seem a little less significant. Not less important.  It seems like we are looking for those higher perspectives, they seem to inspire us, make us grow.
