Clyde Munro make another acquisition, of family dental practice

A RENOWNED dental practice that has had five members of the same family working in it has now agreed a partnership with Scotland’s largest dental group.

Grays Dental Practice in Cambuslang has been a family run practice for 38 years and caters for more than 5,000 NHS patients from throughout the local area.

Named “Practice of the Year” at the Scottish Dental Awards in 2018, Lead Dentist Melanie Gray started working at the practice 12 years ago, and took over from her father, renowned dentist Eric Gray, in running the family business in 2010.

Melanie, 36, who still works alongside her father at the West Coats Road practice, is thrilled at the prospect of taking the next step with Glasgow-based Clyde Munro.

She said: “I really enjoy the dental aspect of my job, it’s what I love doing. I can’t say I love the running of the business quite so much, as the paperwork increases each year.

“I had been looking at a number of different companies and Clyde Munro quickly became my number one choice, they made it so easy.

“I have always been a little wary of a so-called corporate company coming in and taking over. Clyde Munro is far removed from that and it is clear that they care about each practice individually, helping us maintain the highest standards of care – and that personal touch.

“Our practice ethos has always been ‘let our family take care of your family’ – and we are excited to be part of Scotland’s biggest dental family.”

Grays Dental Practice is the latest acquisition for Clyde Munro, the rapidly-growing, Scottish-based dental group which now boasts a portfolio of 42 practices and treats more than 350,000 patients across the country. It is anticipating reaching 50 practices by the start of 2021.

Melanie joined the practice as a dentist in 2008 alongside her brother Gareth, and Dental Hygienist Lana Gray, her mother. At one stage five members of the Gray family were working in the practice.

Melanie said: “Since the age of three I have wanted to be a dentist. I looked up to my dad and thought everything he did was amazing. He set up this practice when I was born, and he still works here now.

“When I first started all the patients knew exactly who I was. My dad would talk about me all the time to them about my ambitions to become a dentist.

“The patients each gave me so much support and motivation – it was really moving. It is great that they are able to share this journey with me.”

The practice currently has three dentists, and offers general dentistry on the NHS and also a wide range of private and cosmetic treatments and professional tooth whitening.

Grays Dentist has been long established in Cambuslang and is a renowned name within the local community. The dentists even provide regular dental check-ups to local residents at local care homes.

Clyde Munro was founded by Jim Hall in 2015 with the acquisition of seven practices. Since then, it has enjoyed rapid growth through acquisition and has plans to continue expanding.

It currently comprises 42 practices across the country, with over 200 associates (dentists) and employing more than 300 staff.

Its ambition is to become Scotland’s “local dentist”, operating an expanding network of family dentists across Scotland, with each devoted to providing the best dental care, while reflecting the needs and character of its community.
