A NEW ambassador to showcase the best of Edinburgh has arrived in the shape of a 6ft 4in kilted, multi-linguist Rudy Crane.

Fraser Suites Edinburgh  – Scotland’s newest boutique hotel – has recruited cool concierge Rudy Crane to show off Scotland’s stylish side as he greets travellers arriving in the city.

The historic Grade B Listed building in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town blends jaw-dropping Victorian opulence with cool contemporary design – and now it has a stylish concierge to match.

Edinburgh-born Rudy has already worked in France, California and New Zealand for some of the world’s best hotels.

Now the 27-year-old will look to cater for the every need of guests at the 75-room Fraser Suites Edinburgh – including recommending bars and restaurants and securing tickets for the most exclusive events in his home city as well as the more unusual requests.

Rudy CraneHe said: “I want to be a different kind of concierge, naturally I will carry out all the traditional duties like making sure Fraser Suites Edinburgh guests get the best possible seats for the Tattoo, but I want to provide a much more personal touch.

“For me, the most important thing about being a concierge is getting to know your guests – if you don’t do that how can you hope to give them the best advice about what in Edinburgh will really appeal to them? ”

Rudy, who speaks fluent French, Dutch and English, has already organised an emergency Feng Shui consultation on a Friday night and found a good steak for a hungry guest at 5am.

Before returning to work in his home city, Rudy worked at the front desk of the Auberge du Soleil – a 50-room venue in California’s Napa Valley consistently voted in the top ten hotels in the USA.

He was also formerly head waiter at New Zealand’s 25-room Huka Lodge – a favourite high society retreat of the British Royal Family when visiting New Zealand.

Now looks the part outside the St Giles Street hotel in a bespoke designer kilt, made specially for him by Howie Nicholsby 21st Century Kilts.

Heather Gilchrist, Frasers Hospitality’s General Manager for Scotland, said Rudy is already loved by international and Scottish guests alike because of his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for Edinburgh.

She added: “The first thing our guests see as they climb the steps from Waverly Station is a 6ft4in kilted Scotsman – it’s a great way to let people know they have arrived at the heart of the capital.

“Rudy is a wonderful addition to the Fraser Suites Edinburgh team. He comes with a wealth of experience from some of the world’s finest hotels, and he has a wonderful way of putting guests at ease.”

Rudy added: “For me, the smiles and stories you get from guests are the most rewarding part of the job. The best feeling comes when you recommend something and they come back telling you what a fantastic experience they have had.

“Edinburgh is a city with a really rich history, but it is also incredibly cool. There is a great nightlife and some hidden gems of bars and restaurants if you ask the right person where to go.

“This is my home city and I love sharing it with the world.”
