Students at Edinburgh’s Telford College have been helping out the homeless this Christmas by going along to Salvation Army bases around Edinburgh to give free haircuts.

The SVQ 2 Barbering class was split among four centres around Edinburgh including their bases at Niddry Street, Cowgate and Pleasance.

Principal of Edinburgh’s Telford College Miles Dibsdall OBE explained what it meant for students at the college to assist the wider community.

He said “Christmas is a time for giving and that was exactly the thinking behind the visit to the Salvation Army centres.”

“This time of year is sometimes extremely hard for people and exceptionally difficult for the homeless. If we can do one thing that may make their Christmas a bit easier then we will have certainly achieved something.”

Miles also talked about the benefits of the visits for the students. “It is also the perfect chance for students to hone their skills and use them in a practical environment whilst liaising with the public.”
