on behalf of Holyrood PR
The commute to work has been much shorter than expected
By Christina Polson
MY SUMMER internship at Holyrood PR is not how I initially thought it might be.
I imagined myself living and working in Edinburgh but due to the current Coronavirus restrictions this isn’t possible. Instead of postponing my internship, I’ve been very fortunate to have the opportunity to complete my internship remotely.
I knew that an internship at Holyrood PR would be a fantastic experience and it hasn’t disappointed. Beforehand, I was a bit apprehensive about how things might work as Holyrood PR’s first remote intern, but once I got my remote desktop set up and a chat with the team, I knew I was in for a great time.
Despite being 120 miles away, the team has made me feel welcomed and involved with what’s going on. I am briefed daily on new tasks and I receive regular messages and video calls.
A week has flown by – I know the world of PR is fast paced but I did not expect this week to fly by this quickly.
I have learnt a lot and been kept busy with exciting new projects for a diverse range of clients. I’ve completed tasks such as newspaper sweeps, updating media lists, social media planning for one client, market research for another, press releases for others, brainstorming with the team, and carried out phone interviews.
It’s safe to say I’ve had a productive week, working with several of Holyrood PR’s clients including Scottish Water, CALA Homes, Blackwood, and Mackie’s being one of the highlights, as I am a huge fan of their ice cream.
Having been given important tasks within my first week really demonstrates the hands-on approach of this internship.
The Holyrood PR team has been amazing at prepping me to carry out each task and ensuring I have plenty of work to do.
The insight into the work of an award-winning PR agency has been eye opening and I am delighted Holyrood PR has taken me on as their first online intern. I have already learnt so much within just one week – I’m eager to learn more and excited to see what the future weeks have in store.
