For over 25 years, Scottish health charity Paths for All has been raising awareness for the benefits of everyday walking on mental, physical, social and environmental health. As more Scots pick up their trainers, the charity hope to make long lasting differences – setting its sights upon influencing legislation.

In the wake of COP26, MSPs across the country gathered to discuss how walking could improve public health, in what was the first ever Scottish Parliamentary debate on the issue. This was a pivotal moment for the charity, placing walking higher up on the political agenda.

With a clear goal of making a healthier, happier and greener Scotland, Paths for All is also taking a lead on creating an updated National Walking Strategy alongside the Scottish Government later this year.

It was vital that such an exciting political breakthrough was shared with the public, to spark discussion and generate real change.

Our team conducted an interview with the experts at Paths for All to find out more about the significance of the debate and gain further insight in to the overwhelming social benefits of walking, such as relieving the pressure on the NHS.

Following the interview, we drafted a press release and sent it to the press on the morning of the debate, generating fantastic coverage:

  • 6 items of coverage across national and local media
  • 1,027,154 opportunities to see online, in print and across social media
  • Key features in Third Force News, and Deadline News
  • Interviews on BBC Good Morning Scotland and STV News at 6

After drafting the release, we got to work in sharing the news by organising massive interviews on BBC Radio Scotland and STV’s primetime news programme.

The debate marked a turning point for Paths for All, as their messages broke in to the political sphere, a core goal for the charity. It also highlighted the importance of walking for the entire country. In addition, the debate established the charity as a leading name in its sector striving towards change and collaborating with governments to create a better future for Scotland.
