Impressive Lodge Steeped In Scottish History Hits the Market

Ceannacroc Lodge on the market with Bell Ingram a Property PR Client

CEANNACROC Lodge – a lovely family home which boasts an important connection to the historical escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Scotland – is now on the market.

The Lodge is situated in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, at the head of Glenmoriston, with the wilds of Glen Shiel and Kintail to the west.  It is a large, detached country house set in colourful gardens running down to the River Moriston, taking full advantage of its location in a prime Scottish beauty spot on the road to the Isle of Skye.

Glenmoriston occupies a key role in Scotland’s history through which, after the Battle of Culloden in 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie, the pretender to the Scottish throne, escaped to safety. The Prince was famously protected by the Seven Men of Glenmoriston, despite a £30,000 reward.

Near to Ceannacroc Lodge is Roderick Mackenzie’s cairn, a tribute to a loyal supporter of the Stuart Prince who pretended to be Charlie and allowed himself to be captured and killed by the soldiers pursuing the young pretender.  With his dying breath, he called out, ‘You have killed your Prince’, which ensured the soldiers took his head to Fort Augustus – giving the real man time to escape to the safety of a mountain cave high up above the glen.  The cave is noted on all current Ordance Survey maps.

Formerly an estate farmhouse and part of the original shooting lodge, Ceannacroc Lodge provides all the attractions of an impressive family home. The five-bedroom property, situated in approximately 0.75 acres, is currently on the market for offers in the region of £365,000.

The lodge has an attached annex which has multiple potential uses, from a granny flat to self-catering or B&B, taking advantage of its location in a prime Scottish beauty spot on the road to the Isle of Skye. It also ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, with a range of easily accessible activities and there are 21 Munros within just a half-hour drive.

The village of Fort Augustus, situated on the Caledonian Canal, is within driving distance and offers local amenities and schooling.  Inverness is 43 miles away and provides all the amenities of a large city.

Joanne Stennett, Senior Estate Agent at Bell Ingram’s Inverness office, said: “Ceannacroc Lodge is a classic rural Highland property, offering the attraction of its famous place in Scottish history. Its bloody history is hard to imagine now, as it is in such a lovely, peaceful location.”

Viewings are strictly by appointment only and can be arranged through Bell Ingram’s Inverness office on 01463 717 799.
