Armchair virtual tours are not just a hit with residents – but also with the media thanks to Social Care PR experts

Our Social Care PR experts teamed up with ASVA for a “Grand tour of Scotland”, bringing some of Scotland's "best days" out to Cramond

Our team of Social Care PR experts teamed up with the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA) to lay on the “Grand tour of Scotland”, bringing some of the country’s best “days out” to those living at Cramond Residence care home.

The efforts that went into the project were evident in the results.

The Highlights

  • 15 pieces of coverage across social, print, and online
  • 227,177 opportunities to see
  • Coverage in national, specialist, and regional news outlets
  • Impressive coverage on Deadline News, Evening News and The Edinburgh Reporter (Twitter)

The campaign started out as an initial brainwave during a brainstorm at Holyrood PR and when we shared the idea with Cramond Residence – they loved it and were keen to implement as soon as possible to ensure they continued providing enriching experience to those living in the home.

We reached out to the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA) who shared our call to action for virtual tours on their newsletter (which has over 800 subscribers!!) and to our delighted we received a response from a Scottish Visitor attraction eager to participate and help out.

The team then went onto liaise with key Scottish visitor attractions to provide a virtual tour (which in most cases ended up being pre-recorded due to lockdown measures) and a live Q&A session.

Attractions included:

  • Holyrood Distillery
  • Glenkinchie Distillery
  • Surgeons Hall Museum
  • Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum
  • National Galleries of Scotland
  • Rosslyn Chapel

To the resident’s delight, Glenkinchie Distillery even sent over a little festive present including a sample of Glenkinchie’s 12-year-old whisky and glasses to be delivered to the home to enjoy during the tour to make sure it proved an interactive, stimulating experience.

The results of the tour were outstanding – not just in the media – but in the home as the virtual tours have been an invaluable source of normality for residents.

Excursions were one of the most popular activity before lockdown and residents would venture out to new places all the time, so for the team at Holyrood PR it has been a delight to work on this campaign and help make lockdown that little bit more enjoyable.

Social care PR experts shared the news with local, regional, national and trade outlets to celebrate the collaboration and share the initiative to show the fun aspects of living in a care home.
