Scottish PR agency shares night in China town at Bupa's Claremont Care Home

RESIDENTS at an Ayr care home have travelled to two continents and sampled the local cuisine, without even packing a suitcase.

Staff at Bupa’s Claremont Care Home, in Whitletts, have been transforming spaces around the home to host a variety of different country-themed nights and transport its residents around the globe.

Each night consists of traditional music from the destination of choice, as well as karaoke and a menu to match the theme. So far, the residents have tried a taste of the Mediterranean in Italy, spent the afternoon in Paris, and had a night embracing Chinese culture.

Carol Barr, Home Manager at Bupa’s Claremont Care Home, said: “We do everything we can to give our residents the best quality of life at Claremont and we understand that many enjoyed a summer trip abroad in their younger years, so we make sure we put an emphasis on travel within our summer activity programme.”

“After the first Italian themed night was a roaring success, we decided to continue and visit as many countries as possible.

“When we held the Parisian café, friends and family came along to join in. We had great weather so had the French doors open out to the patio and the residents all loved it! Some of the staff can speak French so they were teaching them a little too, which was really fun for all of us. Our next night will be a Spanish fiesta.”

The different themes have helped the residents reminisce and share stories of their own holidays and adventures abroad, whilst teaching those who haven’t visited countries more about their culture. Further countries will be picked in the weeks ahead.

Claremont Care Home offers specialist residential and nursing care, alongside care for people with Parkinson’s and dementia. Recently refurbished, the home has a large, landscaped garden with water features, a greenhouse and herb garden. There are plenty of raised flower beds for green-fingered residents to help take care of and they have been frequent award winners at the Ayr Flower Show.
