Four daring staff members from an Uddingston care home have taken a huge leap to raise a whopping £810 for charity.
Home Manager, Michelle Ferrey, Administrator Shell Edgar, Maintenance Manager Alex Stark and Activity Coordinator Janine Boyle from Bupa’s Highgate Care Home on Old Edinburgh Road completed a 165ft abseil down Scotland’s iconic Forth Rail Bridge, and smashed their fundraising target to support Age UK.
Age UK is Bupa’s chosen charity and is the country’s largest charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life. It helps more than 5million people every year by providing support, companionship and advice for older people when they need it most.
Michelle Ferrey, Home Manager at Bupa’s Highgate Care Home, is a devoted ambassador for older people and Age UK is a charity very much close to her heart.
Michelle said: “I am so proud of the team for raising such a fantastic amount of money for such a great charity.
“It was a fabulous day and the rain thankfully held off until after our abseil. Hearing the trains pass above our heads was a bit disconcerting but once we were abseiling there were big smiles on our faces.
“I was terrified but Alex took it all in his stride and was completely calm and in control the entire down. Janine even managed to let go and wave as she descended.
“Age UK is an amazing charity which plays such an important role in the support of older people and we are thrilled to have been able to raise such a fantastic amount of money to help this wonderful cause.”
