CARE HOME RESIDENTS ENJOY SOME FRIGHTFUL FUN

Bupa Care Services Press releases

Staff at a Bupa Care Home have got crafty with residents by organising a challenge to design and build scarecrows.

Bupa’s Kirknowe Care Home, based in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, is split in to three units and each unit was challenged to design and build its own scarecrow.

With a helping hand from four Occupational Health students from Glasgow Caledonian University and activities coordinators June Simm and Yvonne McWhinnie, the residents used old clothes and greenery to create the figures which are now standing pride of place in the care home’s gardens.

Hazelbank, the care home’s dementia unit, added an extra spark of originality by sticking the face of a character from hit BBC Comedy Still Game to their scarecrow.

June said: “This is the first time we have done something like this, but the residents thoroughly enjoyed it.

They really loved working together and getting involved in the activity and they are all extremely pleased with how their scarecrows turned out.

We strive to create innovate and inspiring activities and events for our residents so we are thrilled they enjoyed this one.”
