on behalf of Bield Housing And Care
People who use Bield day care and flexi care services could be heading for a trip down memory lane after a generous donation from a doting daughter.
Dannette McColl Stobie from Glasgow, left £10,000 in her will to housing & care specialist charity Bield – to show the appreciation for the level of care her mother received from their team.
Now, Service Users at one of the day care services and flexi care service within Glasgow are to receive the money and have requested for it to be put towards daytrips to places they visited as children.
As one of Scotland’s leaders in the care and support of older people, Bield will be re-investing the sum in the two services used by the lady, Glasgow Flexi Care and Munro Day Care, which will allow for new equipment and extra day trips that individuals will enjoy and may normally be limited.
Charlotte Brady, Manager of Glasgow Flexi care said: “We have held some meetings with our service users to help gauge what they would like the money to go towards and we really tried to encourage them to think about activities /trips that they may not normally suggest.
“So far suggestions have included day trips to places individuals ventured as children including Largs and Millport, as well as trips to the theatre. Another suggestion was made to purchase a new keyboard.
“As a charity we may have to rely upon our own fundraising efforts to go that extra mile for our service users, so Danette’s donation will definitely go a long way to help. The difference these kind of donations make to the people who use our services really is immeasurable and I would like to thank Dannette and her family for their support.”
‘Free To Be’ Philosophy
Munro Court Day Care and Glasgow Flexi care offer a flexible service for older people who require varying levels of care and support, living in Glasgow and the surrounding area. Echoing Bield’s ‘free to be’ philosophy, the services provide highly trained staff to support individuals and their families to do what they choose to do with their day.
Be it a visit to the swimming baths or cinema, help using computers to Skype loved ones far away or even just a good blether over a cuppa, the services strive to support individuals with their aspirations and encourage good positive experiences on a day to day basis.
Staff are hoping that Dannette’s generosity will be replicated across the country as part of its legacy campaign.
Kevin Rowe, Fundraiser at Bield, said: “Dannette’s generosity is overwhelming and is hugely appreciated by all staff and residents at both Glasgow Flexi Care and Munro Day Care.
“Her donation will make a real difference to the lives of our service users and it represents a true indication that she recognised the great work of Bield in relation to the care of her mother.
“Our service users have benefitted a great deal from these kind legacies in the past and we hope that people will continue to think about us in their will, helping us to maintain our vast range of services for the older generation across the country.”
Bield – a registered charity – has grown from humble beginnings, starting out with one housing development in Bo’ness to become a major provider of a wide range of housing and services for around 20,000 older people across 22 local authority areas.
