HILL VIEW Bupa PR Edinburgh ClientLocal nurse Linda Barnes, is swapping beds for batons as she prepares for her role as a volunteer at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Linda, Unit Manager at Bupa’s Hill View Care Home, has been selected for approximately ten of the anticipated sporting events which kick off towards the end of July.

She will be based at the SECC and Clyde Auditorium where the Boxing, Gymnastics, Judo, Netball and wrestling will be taking place and is looking forward to giving her helping hand.

Describing her anticipation for the forthcoming sporting extravaganza, Linda said:

I’m so happy to be taking part in the Games, it’s such a contrast from my day to day job but the role will still involve me helping others which is my true passion.

This is such a monumental event for Scotland and I’m excited to play my part to ensure everything can run as smoothly as possible and that everyone has a fantastic time. I am proud to be a Glaswegian and I want to play my part in this great event.

The role will see Linda take centre stage as a “Clydesider”’ – a key title which ensures the forthcoming event runs like clockwork. The stint will involve her ensuring attendees are safely escorted in and out of venues and also answering questions that the public may have.

Linda added: “The SECC Campus will form the largest venue during the Games so being able to play, even a small part in this event is just amazing.”

A well known figure in the local community, Linda has worked at Bupa’s Hill View Care Home caring for older people with complex care needs for over 16 years and has won several top awards along the way.

Described as “one of the most respected” members of staff at the Care Home, Linda has previously won several Bupa Personal Best Awards -a recognition trophy dished out by the home to honour hard work and dedication to its top carers.

Linda’s dedication to selflessness and helping others is set to continue with her stint as a volunteer for the highly anticipated Games which will see her juggle the role alongside her day job as Unit Manager, which further testifies her true dedication to helping others.

Felllow staff at Bupa’s Hill View Care Home are also highly supportive of Linda’s upcoming venture, with Care Home Manager, Graham Kelly saying:
