on behalf of Bield Housing And Care
Bield wants to provide one-on-one tutoring in how to use computers, iPads and tablets for tenants at its Springfield Gardens retirement housing development in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire.
The Silver Surfer Project aims to empower tenants with the knowledge to master basic computing skills, to surf the internet and re-connect with long lost friends.
Ellen Howard, Manager at Springfield Gardens, said the project allows tenants to gain confidence, develop new skills and discover a whole new world that they can become a part of.
She said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for our tenants to be able to learn how to get the most out of their iPad or tablet.
“It would be wonderful for them to be able to use the internet to send and receive pictures and to trace family history, for example. For tenants who are unable to visit their loved ones as often as they like – the internet is a crucial life line.
“We need people who understand these various forms of technology to help guide our tenants every step of the way.
“The volunteers themselves also gain great satisfaction and reward for their time – they know that passing on these skills could have a real impact on someone’s day to day life.”
Enthusiastic volunteers, aged 16 and above, who can spend just a few hours a week to support the Silver Surfer project should call Ellen Howard on 01698 810 184 for more information.
