THOUSANDS of art lovers will learn the fascinating story of how Scotland’s Harris Tweed conquered the catwalk – thanks to a significant contribution from a luxury home builder.

The Clo Mor: Harris to Paris exhibition in Edinburgh will now run until the end of August at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, thanks in great part to £5000 in sponsorship from CALA Homes (East).

The support ensures as many people as possible will have the chance to enjoy the visually striking story of how the traditional Scottish cloth ended up as a favoured fabric among the greatest couture houses in the French capital.

Tracing the journey of Tweed from the crofts of Harris to the glamorous world of high fashion via photos, videos and stories, the exhibition, which is also supported by the Harris Tweed Authority,  coincides with the Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh International Fashion Festival.

Mike Benson, Writer for the Clo Mor: Harris to Paris Exhibition, said: “The funds from CALA Homes are playing a crucial role in our ability to display the work at the Waldorf Astoria until the end of August.

“We are very grateful to CALA for its generous contribution to this ongoing project and are thrilled to be able to bring this creative collaboration to the capital city, especially during such an exciting and busy period of the year.”

The financial backing from CALA Homes contributes significantly to the costs of the exhibition, which has already got off to a flier after the official launch was attended by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, in conjunction with Edinburgh International Fashion Festival.

Stala Thomson, Sales Manager with CALA Homes (East), said the developer shares important values with the renowned Harris Tweed industry, making the sponsorship an ideal opportunity to celebrate two Scottish success stories.

She added: “This exhibition is all about quality, craft and attention to detail. It’s also about showcasing how the finest traditional skills can work beautifully as part of the most modern and contemporary designs.

“Those are exactly the values we hold dear at CALA Homes. People want the finer things in life when it comes to buying a home as well – something that not only looks good but has quality assured from the foundations up.

“We are very proud to support this project. As it is running throughout the Edinburgh International Festival, this is a fantastic opportunity for people from all over the world to share in celebrating the heritage and future of this fascinating Scottish industry.”

CALA is committed to investing in the communities where it develops and currently has a number of stunning developments across Edinburgh including Ten Brunswick Road – a collection of one, two and three bedroom city centre apartments located just off Leith Walk, and Liberton Grange – a development of detached homes, terraced houses and spacious apartments offering incredible views over the Crags and Arthur’s Seat.
