A local group at the heart of an East Lothian community has welcomed a substantial boost to its fundraising goal from the UK’s most upmarket home builder.

CALA Homes (East) has given a generous donation to North Berwick Day Centre helping the voluntary group surpass its original target for a brand new bus.

Carol Wicker, Co-ordinator at North Berwick Day Centre, said: “We have been completely overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone who has contributed to our fundraising efforts over the past few months.

“We’ve held a variety of events but never could have dreamed of raising in excess of £60,000.

“It’s been fantastic to see the whole community really pull together and now we can set our sights on a bus even better than the one we originally had in mind.

“Our current bus has been very temperamental recently and has been breaking down a lot. Many of the older people can’t make their own way to the Day Care Centre so it really is crucial that we have a vehicle that’s fit for purpose.

“Everyone is really excited about the prospect of a new bus and we hope that we will be able to organise more day trips once it arrives.

“It’s great to see a company like CALA really help the local community in the area where it builds and I’d like to thank them for their good will and generosity.”
