CALA Homes (East) has given the generous donation to Queensferry Churches’ Care in the Community (QCCC), which provides quality support services to older people and carers throughout rural north-west Edinburgh, including Queensferry, Dalmeny, Kirkliston, Newbridge, Ratho Station and Ratho.

Now, thanks to CALA Homes (East), which has a luxury new-build development in the area, QCCC has been able to fund the renovation of its kitchen facilities to improve its support of older people and carers living locally.

David Pomfret, Chairman of QCCC, said: “We’re very grateful for this funding from CALA as it enables us to open up our kitchen space and offer improved food preparation to our service users from across Rural West Edinburgh.

“The local health service has already expressed an interest in using the facilities to aid those who are recovering from time in hospital and need support to relearn domestic skills.

“It’s great to see a company like CALA really help the local community in the area where it builds and I’d like to thank them for their good will and generosity.

“CALA has shown a lot of concern for the older members of our population and any initiative that brings new life, investment and opportunities into Queensferry is very welcome.”

Queensferry Churches’ Care in the Community is aimed at improving the quality of life for older people, people with dementia and those with significant disabilities living in and around Queensferry.

It offers day care on weekdays, a memory café for those living with dementia and a drop in café for carers in need of support. In addition, QCCC provides a befriending service for those who live independently but appreciate the opportunity to go out for a coffee and or chat to a friendly face.

Stala Thomson, Sales Manager at CALA Homes, said: “I am absolutely delighted to have handed over this donation on behalf of CALA Homes.

“The QCCC is a fantastic organisation which plays such a vital role in helping foster a real sense of community spirit both in Queensferry and the wider communities of Kirkliston, Ratho and Newbridge.

“QCCC services are provided by a small team of professional workers supported by a team of 75 dedicated volunteers and we hope that our contribution towards their kitchen renovation will help this service run for many more years to come.”
