An Air cadet who is embarking on a career in the water industry has rounded off a year of royal duties, by meeting the Queen.
When 19 year old Connor Flockhart is not working in the sales team at Panton McLeod, he undertakes the role of a Lord Lieutenant Cadet, assisting the Lord Lieutenant at important local events and has undertaken duties, which has seen him meet several members of the royal family.
Whilst carrying out his duties he has met the likes of Princess Anne, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Wessex, however Connor has never met her majesty the Queen, but got to do so at what is likely to be his final outing as a Lord Lieutenant Cadet, when she attended the reopening of Abbortsford House earlier this month.
Connor said: “It was very humbling to meet the Queen after a year in my role. I have met many royals over the past few months, but her majesty was by far the icing on the cake for my time as a Lord Lieutenant Cadet.
“Unfortunately I never got to speak to her too much, but from the time I did spend with her she was very warm and welcoming and seemed to be very interested in what was happening on the day.
“I have really enjoyed being the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, and it was a great honour to be selected as a representative for the area in which I live, but unfortunately my year long appointment will soon be over and it is time for me to pass the baton onto someone else.
“It does mean however I can concentrate on a career in the water industry and I am looking forward to working with Panton McLeod and learning more about the industry.”
Royal Role Models
Lord Lieutenant Cadets are selected from Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, the Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force. They assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required – often on parade for Royal visits, and act as ambassadors for their organisations and the young people of Scotland.
Connor was selected for the role last year after being a Cadet Sergeant for the past five and a half years with 2180 Squadron Galashiels, part of the Air Training Corps. He found himself working for Panton McLeod after undertaking some work experience alongside his dad Gary who is Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Manager for the firm.
Eighteen months later Connor is still working with Panton McLeod as part of the Cleaning & Disinfection sales team. Panton McLeod has been very supportive of Connor’s extra role, giving him time off work to attend events.

Her majesty the Queen attended the reopening of Abbotsford House, the former home of Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott (famous for penning novels such as Waverly and Ivanhoe) on July 3rd where she was joined by staff and trustees of the Abbotsford Trust, as well as 500 guests.
The historic building has recently under gone a £12million restoration helping return the home to its former glory.
