A Bupa Care Services manager has been recognised for her efforts in supporting Glasgow young people to enter the social care profession.
Aileen Waton, Area Manager for Bupa Care Homes in the Glasgow area, played an instrumental part in creating a programme with The Princes Trust which has seen 12 young adults to take up positions in care homes in the city.
The project was so successful that it is now being rolled out throughout Scotland with Aileen providing assistance to colleagues to ensure they have relevant training.
Aileen worked with Graeme Davidson, a home based trainer based in Chester, to develop the training programme, which saw them pick up the Learning and Development Award at the 2014 Bupa Care Home Awards held in Glasgow
The judges said: “Aileen and Graeme have shown a real commitment to helping others to grow themselves and become part of Bupa.
“This is exceptional work, helping to drive community engagement and raise the profile of the care sector and is certainly living the Bupa Values.”
Aileen said: “We are both thrilled to have won this award. It’s made even more special knowing that fellow colleagues took the time to nominate us.
“It has been especially pleasing to see so many young people have the chance to start a career in social care with Bupa through this project.”
Andrew Cannon, managing director for Bupa Care Services, said: “We know how hard our people work to deliver wonderful care and support to our residents every single day.
“Aileen and Graeme are great assets to our team and I’m delighted to give them this award.”
The Bupa Care Home Awards celebrate the hard work and achievements of around 27,000 employees across almost 300 care homes. They recognise individuals and teams who have demonstrated exceptional care and have gone the extra mile to support their residents.
