Bring your PR campaign back from the dead

What can Hallowe’en teach you about getting the best from public relations?
WITH HALLOWE’EN just around the corner there couldn’t be a more appropriate time to find out how you can prevent your PR campaign from turning into the walking dead
With the end of the year fast approaching it’s a great time to re-evaluate your PR strategy to ensure your PR campaign is boosting your business’ bottom line in every way possible – and not shambling along, zombie-like.
So here are some Halloween inspired tips to help breathe some life back in to your PR campaign.
Trick or Treat
PR pros can take a lot from the famous ‘Trick or Treat’ expression which everyone associates with Hallowe’en.
If your business hasn’t been making the headlines as you had hoped, a little ‘Trick’ might help you out. A PR stunt is a great way to grab the attention of the media and get your business taking over the headlines for all the right reasons.
Khushi’s, the Edinburgh restaurant, came to us looking for a clever bit of PR to boost the opening of their newly refurbed venue. We discovered that this co-incided with the 80th birthday of the wife of co-founded Mrs Khushi. Our plan was to work with the restaurant to conceive a menu that dated back to 1947 when the first Khushi’s opened – positioning this as the chance to try Scotland’s first curry.
The PR exercise was a resounding success – helping Khushi’s to boost customers numbers by 50% year on year.
Or if you feel ‘Trick’ is not the best way for your business to go why not offer a ‘Treat’.
Everyone loves that winning feeling, which is why everyone loves entering social media competitions. It doesn’t matter if the prize is a dream holiday, or just the chance to win a free meal at your favourite restaurant, if you are offering people the chance to get something for free they will take it.
Social media competitions, however, offer a fantastic chance for your business to come out as the biggest winner of all, with a heightened profile, increased web traffic and the chance to convert more business.
So give your customers a little treat this Halloween and reap the benefits for yourself.
Don’t be a zombie
Let’s be honest no one really likes zombies.
So when it comes to your PR strategy don’t wander about mindlessly like some brain dead character. Instead have a clear plan which you can follow and put procedures in place to help you measure and evaluate your campaigns.
It is crucial you are monitoring your results accurately as this is will ensure you are getting the right results for your business.
After trick or treating when it comes to Halloween the next thing most people think about is a Halloween party.
So what can you take from this? Everyone loves a good event.
Which is why you should try every now and again to host a business event in order to raise your profile.
It doesn’t matter what type of event you are planning on hosting events are the perfect way to illustrate your brand – bringing like-minded people together, and telling your story in a visual and attractive way.
Cobwebs have long been associated with the creepy Halloween atmosphere. But you may wonder what can your PR strategy take from cobwebs?
Well, quite a lot actually.
Cobwebs are networks created by spiders, a lot of time and effort is put in to delicately crafting these webs and you should model your PR campaign on this. You need to spend time and effort building your PR network in order to see results.
And like a cobweb, all the areas of your PR strategy should be linked. Your media coverage, your website and your social media channels should all be connected together helping to spread your messages to your target audience.
Don’t fade into the background
The whole point of Halloween is standing out. You want your Halloween costume to be the best and you want everyone else to wish that they had your costume.
It’s the same when it comes to Holyrood PR’s approach to deliver the best possible PR service – we simpy want everyone to stop and ask: “That is so good, how can we get the same.”
You want your campaign to be making the right noise in the media for all the right reasons, so much noise in fact that your competitors envy you.
In today’s 24 hour news culture and whirlwind of social media there is a lot of competition for any business that wants to cut through the noise and have their story told.
But at Holyrood PR we ensure that all our campaigns have a voice. But to prove that we don’t just talk-the-talk, have a look at the award winning work we delivered to help Banks Renewables to win over community support for their windfarm project – https://www.holyroodpr.co.uk/edinburgh-public-relations-agency-proves-banks-is-full-of-gold/
