MAKEY MAKEY (Aimee)

What do bannanas, Play-Doh, soup and cats have in common? They can all control a computer keyboard! Ah hah, if you don’t believe me check the Makey Makey out to see how you can play Mario using Play-Doh! I’d like to say I don’t care how it does it, but I do! Wish I’d made this genius invention!

TO TATT OR NOT TO TATT (Gaynor)

Did you know that at one time in the USA that there were more tattooed people than blondes? Unbelievable isn’t it? A 2006 poll found that 40 percent of American’s between 26-40 are tattooed. I’m surprised there is a not a statistic like this available for Scotland. This interesting piece explores the reason behind tattoos and why people get them. Does it remind us of who we are? Does it remind us of an important experience in our lives? I have three and yes I do think this is right. Well apart for my first one of stars- that was for a bit of fun!

‘VAMPIRE’ GRAVES FOUND IN BULGARIA (Emily)

Over 100 graves were found in Sozopol, Bulgaria that date back to the 14th century. But don’t worry, they won’t be any threat to Europe, these 700 year old remains had stakes put through their hearts and they were nailed to the coffins. No female ‘vampires’ were discovered. This could be because that town was clearly adept vampire hunters, or maybe the women were all witches and therefore better able to ward off attacks!

PHONE THERAPY (Sarah)

Ever wished you had a straight talking fairy god mother whose job it was to tell you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth – no matter how much you crave the sugar coated version? I have – especially when it comes to boyfriends. Well you need wait no longer – help could be at hand from a new smart-phone app which allows users to log their feeling towards their partner on a daily basis. We are all guilty of ignoring our gut feeling, or repeated bad behaviour, when it comes to our partner – and by logging our feeling daily, even on a moment-to-moment basis, we cannot ignore issues when going back over them. For those of you who, like me, are sick of force feeding ourselves palatable versions of the truth (in other words nonsense) this could be the answer!

START-UPS FORCED TO GO GLOBAL AT THEIR FOUNDING (Emily)

Since Europe’s market is spread over more than 50 countries, start-ups are less likely to survive if they don’t ready themselves for nearly immediate international expansion. Particularly with the added pressure of the debt crisis, local businesses just aren’t smart with Europe’s international mind-set. Multi-lingual work forces are necessary, and strategies have to be flexible to align the business model with local cultures and languages.
