Boyd Legal the Chosen Destination for Chinese Delegation

Boyd Legal Press releases

Boyd Legal A FAMILY-RUN legal firm has scored a major coup by hosting an influential Chinese business delegation who are looking to invest in Scotland.

Boyd Legal seized on the opportunity to invite the 22-strong group of Chinese investors, who have considerable spending power, to the seminar suite in their Edinburgh offices after discovering about the group’s arrival in Scotland.

The group, from SASAC (The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council) is a special commission of the People’s Republic of China, directly under the State Council.

China has been looking to improve governance of state-owned enterprises and that includes organisation’s investment exposure overseas.

Directors and Senior Solicitors from Boyd Legal, were able to provide an overview of investment opportunities in Scotland before organising a panel discussion with a translator.

Peter Boyd Director with Boyd Legal, said: “For the investors to opt to meet with the team here as opposed to one of the biggest names in Scotland is testament to the team’s strengths and reputation.

“In the current climate it is especially important for Scotland to establish close links with economies abroad – and we are delighted to be playing a part in building ties with investors in China.”

Facilitated by the China Britain Business Council (CBBC), the leading organisation helping UK companies grow and develop their business in China, the delegation was made up of top ranking investment executives and Chinese State officials with an interest in investing across a wide range of sectors.

The event at Boyd Legal’s Queensferry Road office signified a break from the expectation that major international delegations will only seek the advice of the largest law firms.

James Brodie, CBBC Director for Scotland was also in attendance. He said: “The group were very keen to learn of the experiences of British firms in investing overseas.

“Given that Chinese firms have only recently been able to expand portfolios abroad, a lot of the hurdles they are facing are the same that Scottish businesses have managed to overcome.

“The expert team at Boyd Legal were able to pass on a great deal of knowledge and experience about Scots’ Law and its key differences with legal parameters elsewhere.”
