BOYD LEGAL have appointed three of its solicitors to its Management Board – including two who started their careers as work experience with the firm – as it drives forward its plans to become the new emerging force in Scotland’s legal sector.

The internal promotions will allow Edinburgh-headquartered Boyd Legal to develop an enhanced operational Board to plan for further growth – as well as underpinning its focus on nurturing its own high quality talent.

Rachael Brandon and Claire Ferguson both started their careers at Boyd Legal via work experience, before completing their solicitor traineeships and qualification and progressing to become Associates.

Rachael heads up the Equity Release department while Claire works in the Private Client department.

Graeme Thomson, a former solicitor with Boyd Legal who then spent the subsequent 10 years as an Associate at Lindsay’s, heads up the Boyd Legal Private Client department.

The appointments follows the announcement that Boyd Legal had merged with Kirkcaldy-based Gibson & Spears, Dow & Son to widen its enhanced legal services offering to people in Fife.

Managing Director Peter Boyd said promotions and the merger highlight Boyd Legal’s focus to drive forward its growth plans, in spite of business community concerns about the fall out of Brexit.

Peter said: “These are excellent promotions for the future of the firm.

“They all show the value of legal firms nurturing their own talent – even if that means staff coming in at the lowest rung.

“We have always set great store on business acumen and legal skills. Both Rachael and Claire impressed us as trainees. They both come from backgrounds of family businesses. Law is first and foremost a business and they understand that work ethic.

“Graeme has thorough experience and understanding of estate planning law, which is an invaluable asset in an increasingly important area.

“All three will gain management experience and are important to the future progress of the business.

“The promotions also allow Boyd Legal to continue to buck the trend of falling confidence among small businesses over the impact of the Brexit vote.

“We believe our model of delivering ‘big firm’ attitude but with personal service and sensible pricing is what many individuals and companies want from a boutique legal firm – and our focus is on investing further to develop and grow the business.”

Boyd Legal rebranded and moved into new showpiece offices in Edinburgh’s Queensferry Street (the former Clydesdale Bank West End offices) in 2015. It has office space in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness and has advanced its expansion through the acquisition of Will databases in Coatbridge and Larkhall and an Edinburgh legal practice.

Boyd Legal, which employs 22, offers estate agency, conveyancing, commercial, business, wills and estates, equity release, later life and family legal services.
