Team members pose for Edinburgh PR storyCOMMUNITY groups, charities and good causes have responded eagerly to a £10,000 community grant scheme for East Lothian, with a total of 29 enquiries received within the first week.

Respected housebuilder CALA Homes (East), in partnership with the East Lothian Courier, recently unveiled the CALA Homes Community Bursary and urged community organisations to apply for the financial aid – which offers maximum grants of up to £2500.

The launch has now attracted a wave of applicants in just seven days, with 29 local groups and positive projects getting in touch with the upmarket developer to enquire about the beneficial initiative.

Derek Lawson, Strategic Land Director with CALA Homes (East), said: “We launched the scheme as we  invest in the communities in which we work, and recognise how many deserving groups there are doing essential work all across East Lothian.

“We want to help these hard-working organisations to continue to deliver the much needed services and benefits that they bring to the area, so it’s inspiring to hear that so many have got in touch over the first week.

“We firmly believe that being a part of this community means making a real and meaningful contribution. This bursary is our latest commitment to doing just that so we hope that we will see even more applications flooding in in the coming weeks.”

Since the initiative launched last Thursday (6th April), a wide variety of charities, community schemes and causes have come forward to express interest. These include organisations doing everything from supporting children, groups helping families to deal with hardship, and local youth sporting clubs to pipe and drum bands.

Derek added: “We understand that these causes operate on tight budgets, so any sort of financial help or support can make a huge difference and go an incredibly long way.

“We would encourage any local cause or charity in need of a bit of a financial boost to also take advantage and apply to the scheme as soon as possible, or to simply get in touch to find out more information.”

Groups can apply by filling in the application form on this page and posting it to CALA East Community Bursary, CALA Marketing (East), Cairnlee House, Callendar Business Park, Falkirk, FK1 1XE.
