ANGEL’S SHARE AIMS TO GIVE LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS THEIR WINGS

Invest in Perth Press releases

Investor PitchLocal entrepreneurs are being given the opportunity to pitch their enterprising ideas to a room full of potential ‘angel’ investors which could help turn their dream into reality.

The Angel’s Share is an entrepreneur / investor matching service which over the past three years has seen investors commit around £1million to the development of fledgling local businesses in Perth and Kinross.

The free event on May 6 will allow start-up businesses to try to gain financial backing in ‘Dragon’s Den’ type pitches from a network of 15 influential investors from Angel’s Share, who will have either Director-level experience, or will be respected and successful sophisticated investors.

Perth and Kinross Council is promoting event through its global investment campaign, Invest in Perth.

Stuart Oliver, Investment and Marketing Officer for Invest in Perth, said: “We’re always looking for new businesses who wish to develop within our region and we want to encourage them by providing networking events like this.

For some fledgling companies finding the right online entrepreneur academy for their staff can be an issue. Along with the fact that finding investors is difficult and they may be charged a fee to be able to pitch, but we offer this service free as an incentive to everyone to come together under one roof.

If the businesses gain the financial backing they need to grow, that development can be hugely beneficial to the local economy and also lead to new employment opportunities for people in the area.”

Among the opportunities for Wednesday’s investors is a craft distillery, hoping to bring a recognisable single consumer brand name to cocktail ingredients and quality spirits.

There will also be a pitch from an investor looking to launch a technology to maximise efficiency and unlock the potential of fibre optic lighting, which is uniquely able to deliver light without electricity or heat – and has applications ranging from lighting in wet, hazardous, and inaccessible places, to energy harvesting and medical lighting.

Finlay Kerr, who leads the Angel’s Share project, said: “Unlike the intimidation of ‘Dragon’s Den’, the event will be a friendly and engaging experience for the hopeful entrepreneurs, as they will be able to network before the pitching starts and will hopefully gain from the new contacts and advice in the process.

Past events have proved hugely popular and we hope that this session can be the beginning of something very special for those looking for investment into their business.”

Invest in Perth aims to position Perth City Region as the most desirable place in Scotland in which to live, work, invest and visit.

Perth is one of the UK’s fastest growing cities and provides an excellent location for business and investment opportunities.
