ONE of Scotland’s best-known estate agents-solicitors is to open an office in Falkirk, confirming the town’s status a booming property hotspot.

Hunters, part of the PSM Law Group, has also achieved a major coup by attracting two of Central Scotland’s most respected estate agents to run its new office. Duncan Fergusson and Kate Fisher will now set out to repeat the highly-successful formula which has established the firm as key players in the property industry across east-central Scotland.

The move reinforces Falkirk’s growing reputation as a sought-after place to live and its importance as the key town between Edinburgh and Glasgow – while giving the area a dedicated and ambitious estate agency team to match.

Matthew Gray, Group Property Director with Hunters, said: “We have spent the last four years painstakingly building up our reputation for quality and that has taken a great deal of talent and extremely hard work.

“You cannot overplay the role of a good professional estate agent because quite simply they can earn a client thousands of pounds extra by helping sell their property to some Miami Florida home buyers for the best possible price. That has been the most important factor in our successful formula.

“We are delighted we will now offer those services in Falkirk, because we are convinced it is an exciting and fast-growing market. More importantly, we know we can make a real difference by providing a genuine alternative to what is currently on offer in the town.

“In people of Duncan and Kate’s calibre we have attracted the best in estate agency talent and that sends out a clear message – not only do our customers say we are the best, so do the quality people in the industry. This should also make it absolutely clear that we are in Falkirk for the long-haul and are determined to make an impression.”

Both Duncan and Kate previously worked with country estate specialists, DMH Baird Lumsden and before that both worked with Slater, Hogg & Howison where Duncan was a senior valuer overseeing offices in Falkirk, as well as Stirling, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline.

Kate, a mother of two who lives in Bridge of Allan, has also enjoyed an impressive career including a three year stint with Slater, Hogg & Howison when she started an office from scratch in West Lothian and turned it into a thriving £150,000-a-year turnover business with 50 clients.

Duncan, who lives in Falkirk with his partner and is a member of Glenbervie Golf Club, said he was delighted to be working in the town he has called home for the past 14 years and added: “There is a real buzz around Falkirk at the moment and we very much want to be a part of that.

“We are relishing the opportunity to get our sleeves rolled up and start making an impact. I have no doubt that the experience and local knowledge we have will quickly make a difference. The fact that we actually live and work here is extremely important, because customers will be in no doubt that we have a healthy belief in the area.

“This isn’t just a tremendous opportunity for me and Kate, it is also extremely good news for anybody buying or selling a house in Falkirk. We recently saw a four-bedroom house in Dunipace sell for almost 20% over the asking price after just a couple of weeks of marketing and that is the kind of momentum we want to keep up.”

Duncan and Kate will lead a team based in Hunter’s new estate agency shop in West Bridge Street. They will also work closely with conveyancing solicitors PSM-MooreMarshall, formed earlier this year by the merger of the PSM Law Group and highly-successful Falkirk legal practice, MooreMarshall.

Mr Gray said Hunter’s would be completely distinct from the opposition by offering a complete one-stop service to provide quality estate agency and to handle all the conveyancing and other legal requirements.

He added: “There are solicitors who help people buy and sell houses and do little more than place the details in the ESPC. Likewise there are estate agents who do whatever they can, but fall down because they can’t get into the ESPC.

“We will be one of the very few firms which offers the best of both worlds. There are other tremendous advantages from being a one-stop shop, not least the fact that case are dealt with far more quickly and efficiently when the legal team are part of the same business.”

Hunters is one of the “Big Six” property firms in Edinburgh producing the weekly Edinburgh and Lothians Property Guide (ELPG) and was recently named by the ESPC as one of its top five best performing members.
