Adding Duck to The Bill Is A Winner For Charity

Project Work and Other Clients Press releases

Duck Shepherd PieA popular new St Andrew’s eatery has raised vital funds for charity by adding a quirky dish to its menu.

Forgan’s bar on Market Street, presented a cheque for £733 to Families First – cash raised solely from sales of its ‘Double Duck’ pie.

A firm favourite with locals, the pie is a seasonal take on shepherd’s pie, substituting traditional lamb for duck.  The unusual  dish instantly ruffled some feathers – in a positive way- to the most popular talking point with diners.

Head chef at Forgan’s, Ross Turner, is delighted that creativity in the kitchen has lead to a donation to the local community.

He said:  “In typical Forgan’s fashion, we were trying to create a seasonal and delicious dish with a twist. I’m delighted that it’s already become a firm favourite on our menu and is helping to raise money for charity at the same time. Making a difference to our community is at the heart of everything we do here.”

Every portion of double duck pie served at the restaurant raised 50p for charity, with proceeds gathered over a six month period. Hard working staff chose to donate the grand total of £733 to Families First.

The St Andrews-based charity supports families and children aged 5-16 within the local area, with a small team of full time staff and 100 volunteers, providing services including holiday activities, breakfast clubs and social outings.

Delighted Morag Coleman, Project Manager at Families First, was at Forgan’s to collect the cheque and said:  “We really appreciate the local support. All of the donations we receive go back into the local community to provide support for families and children.

“We owe a big ‘thank you to everyone in our area for supporting us and helping us through volunteering and raising money. To all the people who have eaten the double duck pie, we appreciate your generosity.”

Made with Barbary duck from Braehead Food,  one of Scotland’s finest suppliers of game and fine food, the duck is marinated overnight in salt, thyme and garlic and then slow cooked.

The dish is topped off with creamy mashed potatoes and served with a side of roasted root vegetables. Available on the main menu every day, the pie is priced at £12.95.

Proving hugely popular with local residents and staff alike, Forgan’s has now decided to make the charity donation a twice yearly event, with money continuing to be raised through sales of the pie throughout the year.

Forgan’s has also introduced a special offer for those who ‘quack up’ at the thought of Double Duck pie: On Wednesday evenings from 5pm, diners can enjoy a pie for two and a schooner of beer or ale for £20 – A perfect way to enjoy a freshly prepared, home-cooked meal whilst giving back to charity at the same time.
