Activity Coordinator Louise Wins Care Award

A care expert from Fife has been recognised for her efforts in keeping older people active and to live happy and fulfilled lives.
Louise Perry, who works as an Activity Coordinator at Bupa’s Balnacarron Care Home in St Andrews, was nominated by colleagues for her work in developing varied social programmes for residents – as well as her caring and friendly nature.
Louise, from Anstruther, was praised for constantly going above and beyond her duties – one recent example of this was when she took a resident who had a lifelong interest in railways to a local railway exhibition.
In addition, Louise also gives up her free time in order to fundraise for the residents’ social activities fund.
The judges who picked Louise for Thecarehome.co.uk Award for Excellence in Care at the 2014 Bupa Care Home Awards held in Glasgow, said: “Louise has shown a dedication to her role at Bupa’s Balnacarron Care Home which has demonstrated her commitment to the home and the residents, going that extra mile to ensure the residents are treated with respect and encouraged to participate in the activities.”
Louise said: “I am thrilled to have won this award. It’s made even more special knowing that my fellow colleagues took the time to nominate me.
“Balnacarron is a special place to work and I will enjoy celebrating this wonderful news with residents and staff in the home.
“I had a wonderful night at the award ceremony and would like to thank everyone involved with organising the event.”
Andrew Cannon, managing director for Bupa Care Services, who presented the award with TV celebrity Rylan Clarke, added: “We know how hard our people work to deliver wonderful care and support to our residents every single day.
“Louise is a great asset to our team and I’m delighted to give her this award.”
The Bupa Care Home Awards celebrate the hard work and achievements of around 27,000 employees across almost 300 care homes. They recognise individuals and teams who have demonstrated exceptional care and have gone the extra mile to support their residents.
