Members of the Scottish Alpine Ski Team were joined by MSPs at the Scottish Parliament to celebrate the team’s wealth of achievements from the past skiing season. The event was also held to showcase Scotland as a leading venue for developing talented young skiers.

Joined by her teammates and 18 MSPs, including Sports Minister, Shona Robinson and East Lothian MSP, Iain Gray, Claire Jeffray enjoyed an evening reception that honoured each team member’s contribution to the overall success of the team.

Originally from Gilford, a small village on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Claire’s most notable achievement from the past season was securing gold at a recent competition held on the Italian slopes.

She is no stranger to winning medals or competing for her country as she originally swam for the Special Olympics GB team, achieving bronze in 1995.

Sports Minister, Shona Robinson, praised the team by saying: “The Scottish ski team is an inspiration to other Scottish athletes ahead of an important time for sport in this country, with the London Olympics less than 100 days away and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. They have achieved global recognition in what has been one of the Scottish ski team’s best ever seasons.”

Recently, the team has exceeded expectations of success and the team’s coach, Ross Gardner, commended the dedication of all team members.

He said: “Our athletes undergo a gruelling training regime for 365 days a year, demonstrating true commitment.

“Our recent results are very well deserved and way above what is generally expected from a lowland nation.
