ART HITS THE DECKS (Aimee)

Creating art isn’t confined to the old paintbrush and pencil! Oh no, check this video which lets a set of vinyl decks take the show. Watch as a pair of pencils attached to flexible wooden arms do the work for you.

SAMSUNG SEEKS BLOGGERS (Gaynor)

In the run up to the Olympics many high profile brands are using various tactics to try and sell their products. The latest one comes from phone giant Samsung, which is holding a competition for 100 bloggers around the world to cover the Olympics using its products. People from twenty countries across the globe will be invited to apply via MSN for its blogger programme. If they win, bloggers will blog and produce a daily show across the whole Olympic games period on devices such as the Samsung galaxy. A great way to get people involved in the Olympics as well as getting people to try out products.

DAMIEN HIRST AT THE TATE (Victoria)

Ahead of the much hyped Damien Hirst exhibition at the Tate Modern, Channel 4 ran a special preview programme last night.  Mr Hirst himself guided comedian Noel Fielding around the exhibition, explaining his influences, the theories and the stories behind each piece of artwork.  I found it fascinating, and my favourite piece had to be the diamond encrusted skull, which sold for a whopping £50 million and just for shock value, ‘Mother And Child Divided’.  If you don’t manage to make it down to London, then you can have your very own private view courtesy of Channel 4…worth a look!

BLOGGERS LOSE LEGAL BATTLE (Emma)

A US judge has dismissed a claim for $105 million of compensation made by a blogger.  Jonathon Tasini, who posted over 200 unpaid columns for news site Huffington Post, launched the lawsuit last year after the website made a deal with AOL worth $315m.  Tasini took legal action on behalf of himself and an estimated 9,000 other bloggers who submitted entries to the site.  The judge rejected the complaint outright, saying that the bloggers were aware right from the start that their work would be unpaid.  The case has raised some interesting points over the future of journalism, as blogging becomes increasingly popular.

SCOTCHLAND WEEK IN NEW YORK (Laura)

We all know that the Americans love us Scots and many of them claim to have distant relatives from ‘Scotchland’. Well now the yanks in New York have come up with a special way to honour their Scottish heritage by celebrating national Tartan week. Yes that’s right seven days of celebrating all things Scottish, including kilt wearing, haggis eating scotch drinking and ceildih dancing! All their missing is our awful weather at the moment!
