Eye-opening KidsOR report secures media spotlight

WHEN a Scottish charity revealed staggering mortality rates in developing countries as a result of delayed care due to Covid-19, charity PR experts made sure the story hit the headlines.
The report commissioned by KidsOR and the University of California found that an estimated 6,000 children a month are likely to have died due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
It was found significant changes in the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients operated on pre and post-Covid – with more healthier and wealthier patients treated – raising concerns about hidden morbidity and mortality amongst poorer people.
Charity PR experts played an essential part in sharing the story and generated fantastic results:
- 136 items of coverage online and in print publications
- 7,014,954 opportunities to see across national, regional, local, and trade-specialist media titles
- National Features in The National, Yahoo! UK and Ireland, The Herald, and The Scotsman
- Regional features across the UK in Northern Echo, South Wales Guardian, North Wales Pioneer, and Glasgow Evening Times
Our team spoke with KidsOR Chief Executive Officer, David Cunningham in order to create a press release which was then shared with a number of media channels securing vital.
The coverage is essential in raising awareness of the lack of surgical care provided in developing countries while highlighting and showing the important of KidsOR’s work.
Launched by husband-and-wife philanthropists Garreth and Nicola Wood, KidsOR works to improve children’s access to surgery and has so far installed 50 paediatric Operating Rooms across Africa and aims to more than double those facilities to 120 by 2030.
