Scottish PR agency manage positive story following community reaction to development plan

INDEPENDENT homebuilder, Dundas, responded to the local community of Mearnskirk after submitting an alternative property development proposal.

Following an initial less than favourable response to the first development plan of 65 apartments, Dundas took onboard local feedback and presented a follow up proposal for 18 detached homes.

A number of factors were reconsidered for the secondary proposal from concerns about increased traffic flow to the types of brick that would be used in the new properties.

The update comes as part of the developers aim to inform the local community groups about the construction of a new development at every step – in line with the company’s renewed engagement policy.

It presented our Scottish PR experts with a challenge to achieve positive coverage on a story which can have the potential to be a sensitive issue to report on. However, the team pulled through with some brilliant results.

Our Scottish PR experts drew on the feedback which came back from the original proposal from the local community, thereafter we compared the improvements made by Dundas to the follow-up plan.

One of the key messages to highlight in the piece was the property developer’s willingness to take on constructive feedback and to then adapt a proposal that would cater to the points made by the local community.

It is a fundamental part of Dundas’ renewed goals to interact more cohesively with the public and to distance the brand away from larger plc’s.

The main strategy was to target local media. It is important to ensure Dundas’ reputation remains positive in the surrounding area and so favourable stories in these outlets was a must.
