Ann Docherty, a resident at Castlebank Gardens Housing with Care Development in Glasgow has celebrated her milestone 100th birthday surrounded by friends after making what she has described as the best move of her life.
The centenarian, who left school at the age of 14 to start work, said she has always looked forward to retirement and now thanks to leading care and housing provider Bield she is living the dream.
The development hosted a 100th birthday party for Ann inviting 60 staff, carers and friends, some of whom she had not seen for 20 years.
Ann, who has been staying at the development for six years, said: “I love living at Castlebank Gardens, it is definitely the best move I ever made.
“I am so glad to be able to spend my retirement in such a great environment and there’s certainly nowhere better I could think of to spend my 100th birthday.”
Ann has had a number of jobs throughout her life including being employed at a wallpapering and painting business and working with children with disabilities.
She added: “I have worked hard my whole life helping others and it is fantastic to know that now there are people there to help me if I need it.
“I am so grateful to all the staff at Castlebank Gardens, especially for all the efforts everyone went to make my birthday extra special.”
Sarah Cannon, Development Manager at Castlebank Gardens said: “We are so pleased that we have been able to enhance and enrich this more relaxing stage of Ann’s life.
“The party was a brilliant day with all her family, friends and neighbours in attendance. It was exactly how she wanted it.
“We are all thrilled we were able to be a part of this significant occasion in her life.”
