Biddy Mulligans Irish Pub in Edinburgh is on the lookout for a lover of the ‘water of life’, to help it create the best whisky selection in the city.

So applications are being invited from amateur whisky lovers who believe they have what it takes to help the bar choose its whisky list, which will feature some of the best Irish and Scottish malts as well a couple of surprise finds from other parts of the world.

Donal Hurrell, General Manager of Biddy Mulligans, said: “The job will involve turning up, admiring the vast whisky collection and recommending the best varieties.

“Anyone of any legal drinking age can apply, from anywhere. Most whisky enthusiasts enjoy a dram, but the real aficionados we want to hear from savour everything from the colour and the nose to the subtle tones and flavours.

Enthusiastic

“This is a great opportunity for someone who is a real whisky lover to come along and help us choose our list. We’re looking for a keen amateur who will become our freelance whisky consultant.

“We anticipate a lot of applications but we’re really looking for someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about whisky.”

The lucyk whisky enthusiast who lands the role will help whittle down the perfect list from the  120 premium whiskies and whiskeys from all over the world stored at its bar and in its cellars.

Its most exclusive offerings include an 18-year-old Highland Park, a 15-year old Redbreast Irish whiskey and a 17-year-old Japanese whisky, Suntory Hibiki.

However most single drams cost less than £4.

The job will be along the lines of professional whisky tastings and will involve attending several sessions at the bar over the course of a few days.

During a tasting, staff will offer a selection of two to four ‘nips’. They will discuss the merits of each dram, and compare them. The best will be selected for the pub’s whisky menu.

Biddy Mulligan’s in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh, offers a real taste of Ireland for locals and tourists alike. As well as traditional Irish food and drink the bar will also have live music seven nights a week.
