Oakburn Gardens, Bield’s Retirement Housing development in Milngavie, is looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to spend a couple of hours each month helping out with the social activities.

The appeal comes as a result of the success of previous social activities held at the development, which allow tenants the chance to socialise and interact with their neighbours.

Anita Jones, Scheme Manager at Oakburn Gardens, believes that activities are vital for encouraging social interaction between tenants.

She said: “All of our previous social events have been a knock-out success among tenants at Oakburn Gardens.

“Many people in the development look forward to the chance to socialise and chat with their neighbours, which is why we are so keen to expand the tenants’ social activity to things such as bingo sessions, race afternoons and games evenings.

“We are always looking for ways to enrich the lives of our tenants and the positive feedback we have received regarding various events proves that social activities are a great way to get tenants out and about.

“We are constantly striving to adapt, evolve and enhance the social activities available to our tenants and we know that volunteers are key to ensuring that we can do this.”

Oakburn Gardens is looking for volunteers who are available on a Monday afternoon and Thursday morning but hope to go on to expand their activities to other days of the week.

Bield is a registered charity that came from humble beginnings, starting out with just one development in Bo’Ness to become a major of a wide range of housing and services for around 20,000 older people across 23 local authority areas.

If you are over 16 and interested in becoming part of team dedicated to enriching the lives of older people in Scotland, please call Anita Jones on 0141 956 7058.
