Local PR for Dundee Housing Shelter

Bield has opened a brand new cafe within their sheltered housing complex in Dundee. The cafe, situated at Bield’s Bonnethill Gardens development in Caldrum Street will offer elderly residents a relaxed meeting point where they can access information about city services for dementia sufferers. 

The cafe will be open every Tuesday afternoon from 1pm – 3.30pm and was named ‘Clachan’ by resident Mrs Elaine Dair, after a meeting place in the village her grandmother grew up in, and which Mrs Dair holds fond childhood memories of. 

Tracey Howatt, Housing Operations Manager at Bield’s Dundee area office complex, said: “Everyone working and living at Bonnethill is delighted with the new area, and looking forward to developing the services provided there. 

“The resource itself provides a warm and friendly environment for service users to relax in, and is separated into different areas, allowing for individuals to enjoy socialising with others, or being able to take the time to themselves to read materials or obtain information.

“For example, one area will give users a chance to settle down in comfy chairs and sofas to read a range of books, magazines and papers.

“There will also, of course, be refreshments available, and all of the delicious baking is home made, prepared freshly on site, and available for a very reasonable price.”

The Cafe will also hold organised events in which representatives from various agencies and service providers involved in care for older people will visit and answer any questions or queries people may have.
