Tweet Success as Scotland’s Twitter Champions Harness Power of Social Media

Blog

Twibbon - Start SomethingKudos to Simon Wall and the team at StormId,  the brilliant Scottish digital developers behind the phenomenal success story that is Twibbon.

Twibbon is the astonishingly simple-yet-clever tool which lets anybody – yes, anybody – start a good cause on Twitter.

Yesterday it was reported in the Edinburgh Evening News that this homegrown social media success story has reached an astonishing new landmark – one million Twitter followers.

However, you heard it here first – and if you want you can hear it again from Simon himself, because it was recorded for posterity.

Since last year I have been extending the PR and social media work of Holyrood PR by producing a weekly social media Scotland podcast, along with renowned journalist Shaun Milne, from leading Scottish multimedia agency, Deadline News.

It is called Quiet News Day, or QND and our first shot 2010 was on January 6 with episode 10. It featured a meaty interview with Simon Wall.

As well as talking at length about how the success of Twibbon and how it has transformed the way StormID work, Simon also revealed how the team have so far done little to celebrate their success.

With the magical millionth Twitter follower just weeks away, he also revealed StormID and the Twibbon team would be planning a major party to mark the occasion.

Simon is a down-to-earth Edinburgh bloke who loves his job and you get the impression every single member of the StormID team feels the same way.

They are understandably proud of the fantastic, positive effect Twibbon has had across the globe, raising money and awareness for thousands of good causes.

You can hear Quiet News Day, QND, Episode 10 at various places:

At iTunes (just search for QND), or at LibSyn or at our dedicated Quiet News Day website. Finally, you can also listen right here on the Holyrood PR website – just visit Episode 10.

The full interview with Simon kicks off at 29 minutes and 15 seconds in.

However, if you haven’t caught Quiet News Day up til now, have a listen to the full programme. As well as discussing the controversial new bid for Scotland’s Channel 3 news contract and the value (or other wise) of the BBC licence fee, you’ll also find chat about a worm-related social media success story.

We’re availabe every week through the channels already mentinoned – and you can also contact us via Twitter @quietnewsday.
