Vincent Bell Hairdressing Press releases

vincent bellAn innovative academy that gives people the chance make a career in hairdressing is looking for fresh talent to embark on their training courses.

Vincent Bell Hairdressing is seeking new recruits to join its exclusive Training Academy which offers a full range of courses suitable for everyone from those with little or no experience to junior hairdressers.

The Training Academy, which enjoys an impressive success rate, runs an introduction to hairdressing course, commercial one and two day sessions, as well as NVQ Level 2 qualification.

Karen Bell, manager of Vincent Bell Hairdressing, said: “The Training Academy is a great source of learning for anyone who interested in a career in hairdressing.

“The courses are designed for everyone – ranging from school leavers who want to gain some experience, or a junior hairdresser who wants to take the next step on the career ladder. Even those interested in a career change can benefit from what we can offer.

“Our Training Academy can accommodate students on the NVQ Level 2 programme as well as the Fast Track option and we think this course in particular is a fantastic way to get trainees motivated and inspired by the hairdressing industry.”

Popular Choice

One of the most popular choices for school leavers and students is the Introduction to Hairdressing course which is run in conjunction with the Scottish Government.

Under the Get Ready for Work Programme, eligible school leavers can get a flavour of the standards and expectations of a junior hairdresser.

Students spend 13 weeks in a salon environment to develop their skills and give them the experience they need to progress to the next level.

Now in its third year, the Get Ready for Work course has been extremely successful with 95 per cent of all trainees who have partipated in the programme having been given the opportunity of real work experience in hairdressing salons.

Further Studies

The next phase for many trainees is to complete the NVQ Level 2 course – which can either be completed over 15-18 months or through the Fast Track option, in just 26 weeks.

Applicants for the City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing programme should be between the age of 16 and 17-years-old and have at least three months salon experience – the training either takes place in-house or at the Training Academy.

The course consists of seven units ranging from health and safety in the salon to positive impression, and cutting to colouring.

Sarah Collinson, 19, successfully completed the Get Ready for Work initiative and is now on track to complete her NVQ Level 2 course at Vincent Bell Hairdressing.

After leaving school at 17, Sarah grabbed the chance to get experience in a salon before embarking on her career in hairdressing.

She said: “I went to Careers Scotland for help finding a job in hairdressing as I didn’t really like the idea of going to college and it was the perfect alternative.

“I would definitely recommend the course as it’s a great motivation tool to get more experience and find out more about your skills – hairdressing is always something I’ve wanted to do and this has definitely shown me that this is what I want to do with my life.

“I’m now near the end of the NVQ and it has definitely given me more confidence in not only my ability but even being able to take bookings or talk to clients and staff.

“The NVQ is a significantly different from the Get Ready for Work course as it is more hands on and gives you experience in cutting, colouring and even blow drying hair.

“It’s definitely been the best decision to get on these courses and work my away up and I’m now on target to complete my NVQ Level 3.”
