LET’S face it, being on TV is still a dream for most people – and the arrival of STV Edinburgh certainly made that aspiration more likely for many in the capital.

Any lingering doubts over the city’s willingness or ability to sustain a dedicated channel appear to have been dismissed with the success the new station in its first week.

On day one its flagship programme, The Fountainbridge Show, drew an impressive 166,000 viewers, including a high of 48,000 at one point.

The success of the launch also underlines the value of strategic PR advice from our public relations agency in Edinburgh.

Read more about the tie-up in our original media release.

Warners, already a household name across Edinburgh and the Lothians, sees the tie-up as an ideal way to keep promoting its hard-won reputation. Delighted staff at the solicitor and estate agency report that already the signs look promising with hugely positive feedback from clients.

Meanwhile Warners’ new website – which was launched to coincide with the start of the STV sponsorship deal – has enjoyed impressive visitor numbers.

Holyrood PR STV Edinburgh logoJust a few days after the big launch I visited the new STV Edinburgh studios in Fountainbridge and couldn’t help but be impressed by the energy and enthusiasm of the editorial and production teams. The place was buzzing with energy, crackling with ideas and was clearly a place were the staff seem brimful of optimism and are genuinely loving what they do.

That kind of attitude and positivity is infectious and if STV Edinburgh continue to get the formula right, then that feel good factor will translate through to a healthy viewership.

So far so good and there’s plenty for the STV team to smile about. There launch came seven months after the opening of sister station, STV Glasgow, hailed as one of the most successful local TV launches in Britain – yet the STV Edinburgh launch outperformed it.

Yes, there will be a bias towards good news stories about Edinburgh and to feature the city’s most interesting characters and personalities in ways that showcase the more appealing aspects of the capital.

Here at our Edinburgh PR agency that matches our own findings – with the most positive and upbeat stories attracting most website visitors and proving most popular on the weekly newsletter (subscribe here and check it out for yourself) we share with thousands of business people.

What is clear is that people are ready for and like a bit of fun in their life. With years of austerity, Parisian shooting horrors and terrorist fears continuing to pervade the news headlines, is that so wrong? I think not.

Also great to see is the raft of local bands who are getting the chance to showcase their talents, especially as Edinburgh is starved of live venues. By all accounts, the up and coming Rising Souls are well worth keeping any eye on.

As a Scottish PR agency with many clients in Edinburgh, the expert PR team here at Holyrood PR are already planning how we can plan and place our clients on the comfy couches of STV Edinburgh.

And, in an added bonus our public relations agency, myself and co-director Scott Douglas have been asked to feature as guest reviewers for the Media Review slots.

That should give you even more reason to watch…
