Three women from Queensferry have helped raise almost £7000 for charity after taking part in the RBS Caledonian Challenge.

Angela Hamilton Gerahty, Shelley Manson and Sipra Whitehead along with three other women from Edinburgh took part in the RBS Caledonian Challenge last month. The group of women, who called themselves the ‘Cheeky Chicks’ walked 54 miles within 24 hours in  the Scottish Highlands.

Angela, who is a marketing manager at Orocco Pier, said: “We initially hoped to raise £5000 but we managed to raise £6916 which was outstanding”.

”The trek was challenging but incredibly exhilarating. It was a great experience, I would certainly recommend that everyone does this at least once!”

The RBS Caledonian Challenge, which is one of the UK’s biggest and most established charity endurance events, sees teams of entrants tackling a gruelling 54 mile trek on the West Highland Way in 24 hours. The challenge starts at Gairlochy, north of Fort William, and follows the Great Glen Way and West Highland Way footpaths via Kinlochleven, Glencoe Mountain Centre and Inveroran, before finishing at Auchtertyre- offering entrants the chance to test their endurance whilst taking in some of the most breathtaking landscape in the UK.

Since the challenge was founded in 1996, more than 14,000 people such as the ‘Cheeky Chicks’ have successfully taken part and raised over £11 million for charity, which has been distributed by the Scottish Community Foundation. The event is one of the biggest charity fixtures for businesses and corporate fundraisers, regularly attracting 1000 participants from all over the world.

All funds raised by participants go towards helping enhance the lives of thousands of people in Scotland through much-needed local community based services and projects.
