Hamish Haggis, the globetrotting teddy bear will be completing a 16 mile walk in order to set up a pampering room in Gillie Court Care House.

Hamish Haggis is a local fundraising legend, according to The Courier, and this time he is fundraising for the Gillie Court Care House, run by Bield, Scotland’s leading provider of housing, care and community services for older people.

Together with his owners Dunfermline Liberal Democrat Councillor, Joe Rosiejak and his wife Dorothy, will walk from Gillie Court Care House, then embark on a cycle over the Forth Road Bridge and back and arrive back at the care home by foot.

Dorothy, who regularly volunteers at Gillie Court and whose mother is a resident there, said: “We have been all over the world with Hamish to raise funds for worthy causes so it is an honour to be involved in raising money for Gillie Court Care House as they have provided such excellent care for my mother who has been a resident for six years.

In 15 years Hamish has participated in over 100 fundraising walks in support of a variety of causes all over the world with the total fundraising figure now at an estimated £336k. Hamish was awarded the esteemed Paul Harris Fellowship, as recognition of his fundraising efforts and contribution to The Rotary Foundation.

Chief Executive Brian Logan is hoping to be at the event and is looking forward to seeing the public support of this cause.

The idea to progress the project came after staff held a series of meetings and asked residents what they would like to see happen to the unused room.

Brenda Robertson, Resource Manager at Gillie Court Care House, said: “The pampering room will no doubt be a huge success with everyone, an area which will provide rest and relaxation for our service users.

“Rest and relaxation are vital for all of our tenants, so a special room where they can have therapeutic treatments seems a perfect idea.”

A JustGiving page has been set up by Dorothy and Joe to aid with raising funds for this great cause. Donations can be made by texting: HAHA97 to 70070 or by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/hamishhaggis
