Space Solutions, Scotland’s leading workplace design specialist, has seen its central belt relocations and operations division record a bumper first year of business.

In its first 12 months of operation, Space Solutions teams have installed tens of thousands of workstations, desks and office chairs for companies across the country.

Two of the more interesting challenges involved transferring an entire 150-person office facility from Scotland to Sweden and the installation of more than 1500 student bedrooms across the UK.

Space Solutions is Scotland’s biggest independent expert in helping businesses manage change within the workplace.  It operates UK-wide to design, build, fit out, refurbish and relocate modern and productive business environments.

The firm centralised its relocations, operations and Facilities Management support divisions to a purpose-built facility called The Hub, located in Livingston on the M8 corridor between Glasgow and Edinburgh last summer.  However, a separate relocations team is also based in Aberdeen, providing support to businesses in the North East.

The Hub – which employs 36 people across all areas – can manage anything from minor moves to entire headquarter relocations with a move management service tailored to suit individual requirements.  As well as providing product storage and a base from which furniture products are dispatched for delivery and installation, The Hub also feature’s the UK’s first independent showroom for contract furniture suppliers and manufacturers.  

Space Solutions director Derek Binnie, said: “We’re delighted with how the first year of operations at The Hub has progressed over what has been a very challenging 12 months.

“All of our staff have been working tirelessly to make sure that the facility is a key part of the overall Space Solutions success story in Scotland.

“Some of our successes have been particularly interesting. For example, there will not be many companies who can boast that they moved a whole office from Scotland to Sweden.

“But as far as we are concerned no project is too small.  We have highly trained and dedicated teams at The Hub who are experts in office relocations, furniture installation and workplace support. They understand the pressures and anxieties that can come with office change, and are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that all of our relocation or furniture installations are carried out swiftly and with the minimal disruption to our clients’ businesses.

“We also provide ad-hoc Facilities Management (FM) support for SME companies who might not have their own on-site resource and in a number of cases provide outsourced staff to be based within businesses.

“The Hub is now an integral part of our work across Scotland and the UK and we envisage that it will continue to grow over the coming years.”

Among the successes this year, The Hub has:

• Delivered and installed 16,000 office chairs across Scotland
• Delivered and installed more than 10,000 work stations and desks across Scotland
• Dismantled and shipped an entire 150 person office from Scotland to Sweden
• Completed the installation of more than 1500 student bedrooms and 80 student kitchens
• Moved a total of 30 1.5 tonne machine tools in just two days – the equivalent weight of over 5 ½ double decker buses
• Delivered products to every major town and city in Scotland
• Worked nearly every weekend to seamlessly relocate more than 30 companies – ensuring that work was completed between Fridays and Mondays so that the firms did not lose any staff working time
