A quality public relations agency  like Holyrood PR in Edinburgh works with clients to identify photo opportunities, particularly those where the skills of a professional photographer will make the biggest difference.

Edinburgh PR agency and care home residents enjoy performance from stars of West end MusicalSometimes this will involve setting up a photo call where numerous photographers and TV cameras will be invited along. In the hands of PR experts, this will be a smooth and well-organised process, carefully-planned in advance so that the location, lighting, timing and picture subjects are all as good as possible.

Everyone involved will be fully and carefully briefed on what they are to do and when – while the public relations specialists will help the photographers to get exactly what they need for their publication, website or channel.

On other occasions, the best solution may be to hire the services of just a single, reputable photographer – one who knows the kind images favoured by the news sites you hope to appear in.

Both careful planning and expert knowledge of the media are essential to make sure everything and everyone is optimised well in advance to get the best possible results.

This is a skill which really comes to the fore when photo opportunities are arranged at short notice. For instance, in December 2014 the cast of hit musical Wicked made an appearance – at short notice – in a care home run by our client, Bupa. The residents of the home were treated to a series of songs performed for them.

We invited along the media, while also commissioning a photographer to take images to be used by Bupa and by those news outlets unable to attend. The results were impressive.

As well as achieving coverage in the Evening News, the Scotsman.com website and national news site Deadline News, the pics also appeared in influential local newspapers the Arbroath Herald and the Southern Reporter as well as in a number of specialist care-related titles.

Online video of the event also appeared online, including on the Evening News website, where it wash shared more than 40 times attracting more than 400 Likes. It was a similar story on the Bupa website and Facebook pages, where the photos attracted more than 800 views with plentiful Likes and shares.
